Patients who have a dementia may like to do an activity one day and may have a hard time doing it the next day.  Gently introducing something else may avert a catastrophic reaction or mood swing.  Allowing the patient a sense of control and accomplishment will enhance and maitain their dignity and self-esteem.  Massage as a regular activity has many benefits for patients, including: helping to lessen mental anxiety, reduce tension, reduce need for medication, help muscle cramping & rigidity and give patients who are touch deprived a feeling of relaxation and sense of well-being.
