Medications 

There are three major Alzheimer’s drugs available. 

  1. Aricept (donepezil hydrochloride) Pfizer & Eisai, Inc.                          Patient Assistance Program: 1-800-226-2072
  2. Exelon (rivasigmine tartrate) Novartis Pharmaceutical                      Patient Assistance Program:  1-800-277-2254
  3. Reminyl (galantamine HBr) Janssen Pharmaceutical                                   Patient Assistance Program:  1-800-652-6227

 Usually a three month supply of these drugs can be sent to your doctor’s office free of charge if the patient meets eligibility requirements and the doctor fills out the proper form(s).

 The New England Journal of Medicine reported in April, 2003 that a drug named: “Memantine” has been long used in Germany in moderate to severe Alzheimer’s patients.  This drug slows down memory loss and physical decline according to a study.  (Memantine is not yet available in the U.S.)
