"I fear I am not in my perfect mind.
Methinks I should know you and know this
man;
Yet I am doubtful; for I am mainly
ignorant
What place this is, and all the skills I
have.
Remembers not these garments; nor I know
not
Where did I lodge last night.
Do not laugh at me."

When her firstborn child died in infancy,
she was grief stricken. Carrying his body everywhere, she roamed
the streets, begging to find a holy man to perform a miracle and
restore his life. Eventually she visited the Buddha, who told
her to go into the city and bring back a mustard seed from any house
in which there had never been a death. For weeks she wandered,
at last understanding the lesson: the law of the universe is
impermanence; accepting death can free us from suffering.
