Support Groups

A support group is a safe place held weekly or monthly where people meet who share a particular problem.  These groups offer a confidential, non-judgmental and supportive environment.  People discuss difficulties, feelings and fears.  There is emotional support, friendships are formed, coping skills, stress management, personal growth and people who truly understand what you are going through.  Groups also offer referrals to helpful persons and programs in the community.  Some groups have caregiver wellness retreats, pamper days and respite opportunities available.

Some quotes from support group members:

  • Joining this group saved my life
  • We can cry with no shame attached
  • No one else understands what I am going through
  • I can actually laugh again
  • I am re-discovering the person I was before this disease took over our lives
